Severe Thunderstorm Warning for HEAVY RAINFALL

For people in Southeast Coast and parts of Wide Bay and Burnett and Darling Downs and Granite Belt Forecast Districts.

Issued at 6:23 am Sunday, 16 December 2018.

Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Gold Coast, Brisbane, Maroochydore, Gympie, Ipswich, Coolangatta, Caboolture, Cleveland, Gatton, Jimboomba, Rainbow Beach and Redcliffe. Rainfall rates have eased in the North Tropical Coast and Tablelands and Herbert and Lower Burdekin districts and the warning for these districts is CANCELLED. A severe weather warning for heavy rainfall and damaging winds remains current for coastal and adjacent districts from the North Tropical Coast to the northern Wide Bay and Burnett districts. Pomona in the Sunshine Coast hinterland has recorded 64mm during the past hour.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should: * Never drive, walk or ride through flood waters. If it's flooded, forget it. * Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees. * Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm. * Beware of fallen trees and powerlines. * For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500.

The next warning is due to be issued by 9:25 am.

Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureau's website at www.bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 219. The Bureau and Queensland Fire and Emergency Services would appreciate warnings being broadcast regularly.
